| Brenda and I will be celebrating our one year anniversary today. It's been a good first year, with no major set-backs. And to kickoff our celebration, I have decided to roll out my website on the same day. In dedication to my wife, here is a link to our wedding photos on the new website.
As I mentioned earlier the website has been in development for over 7 years. I would do small parts, then stop programming for a while. Every now and then I would get the "itch" and continue programming. However for the past year, I've seriously hunkered down to get the website up and running. I've removed features and worked around things and I believe the application is at a point where it's a good "Phase 1"
Why do this when there are other online photo services? Well for starters, I love to program, and often make small apps to help me do something. This is a method for me to keep up with current technologies. Often I will see something and say "hey thats pretty cool, I wonder how they did that". Another reason could be the blending of my love for photography, and my enjoyment in programming.. who knows I did have a good time rolling this project out. For the geeks out there, I used Java as the programming language with Hibernate, Spring, Struts on the back end. JSP / servlets on the front end. For the UI, prototype, scriptaculous, javascript and ajax were implemented.
For "Phase 2" don't hold your breath, I am going to take a few steps back and just maintain the website. (Brenda has been patient while I developed at home, and now I think I should spend some more time with her) What I would like to do is be able to tag photos with people in it. That way you would be able to search for photos thad had "andy" or "brenda" in it. Not sure when this will be.
And finally, the webiste it self. if you go to http://atoned.org you will see a temp. page allowing you to select which portal to visit. Andy Ahnn and Harvest Church are your only two options. Most likely you will be going to http://atoned.org/andyahnn/albums. From there you can browse the albums, search and view photos. If you would like to read the help section, here is the direct link http://atoned.org/system/help.jsp
One thing to note, there are multiple starting pages for the website. You could visit the main area /andyahnn/albums, or if you would like to you can see the latest albums that have been uploaded http://atoned.org/andyahnn/latest .This also is covered in the help section.
The photos on the website go back until 2004. In a few weeks I will try to have 2000-2004 up and running.
Enjoy, I will continue to upload photos.

| There is a web application that I have been writing on and off for the past 6 years. I would start part of it, code for a whlie, then I would stop. 1/2 a year later pick it back up.. gut the heck out of code and try new stuff. Another thing is that video games seemed to distract me from getting my web app online. :(
For the past few weeks i've been working crazily on the website, and it should be online in a month? I hope. The web app will be a place for me to store all my photos. Yes yes, i know there are things such as picasa, flickr and other online photo services, but I wanted to code my own (hobby), and this project started out around 2002 (when such sites were not up yet). I was able to utilize some cool java frameworks, and recently I threw in some Ajax stuff... so yeah the website is a "Proof of Concept" for me to learn and try new things.
Today I spent about 18 hours on the project. 5 hours coding, and then the rest of the time was to upload my photos. It took the better part of the day to upload 40 some odd albums, totaling about 900 pictures, which is about 2gb of data. I managed to upload photos from last month, back to Sept. 2007. So about 6 months worth.
The site is going pretty well, so I hope to have it avail. for you guys to check out soon.
And a big thanks to my loving wife, who was very lovingly patient with me today while I vegged and programmed/uploaded photos all day long. I didn't even play any GTA4 today...
And by telling this to you guys now, it'll force my butt to actually get the website done, instead of throwing it aside for another 1/2 year. So if you don't hear anything from me in a month... kick my butt please.
Thanks
